Math Camp

The Department of Political Science offers an intensive two-week math review course prior to the start of classes in the fall. Graduate study in Political Science routinely involves statistical and mathematical tools that are rarely encountered in undergraduate programs. The course will cover useful topics from elementary calculus and linear algebra. It is geared toward students who have previously taken calculus, but have forgotten most of what they learned.

Math Camp carries no credit and attendance is not required, but the material covered is a prerequisite for the first course in the graduate methods sequence (which is required). Unless your math skills are very strong, you should plan on attending. The course is geared for political science graduate students, but graduate students in any social science discipline are welcome to attend for a fee of $250. Students in other departments interested in attending may contact Chandelle Arambula for details. The 2009 Math Camp will be held September 8th - 18th.
