Biography

Miikka Jaarte is a PhD Candidate in Philosophy at Stanford University. His research focuses on political philosophy, 19th Century philosophy, and the philosophy of race. He is writing a dissertation under the supervision of Debra Satz, Leif Wenar, Wendy Salkin, and Juliana Bidadanure.

His research concerns different modes of economic domination — unjust forms of social power enshrined in relations of ownership and control. In his work on contemporary political philosophy, he writes about the neo-republican theory of domination and its implications for political economy. In his work on the history of political thought, he writes about G.W.F. Hegel’s philosophy of slavery and its reception, especially among post-colonial theorists.
