About

I am a postdoctoral fellow at Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University and will receive a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University in September 2016. Prior to attending Stanford, I worked for the Japanese foreign service for six years in Tokyo and Washington D.C. My fields of research include interstate conflict, foreign policy, U.S.-Japan relations, and statistical and computational methods including text analysis and machine learning.  In my dissertation, I apply text analysis and machine learning methods to newly-digitized U.S. foreign relations documents in order to empirically test the microfoundations of state behavior and leaders' public communication in conflict.
