Alicia Chen

Alicia Chen studies international relations and political economy, with a focus on Chinese development aid. Her dissertation examines how domestic politics shape both the supply and demand for Chinese aid. In other research, she studies how aid from different donors affect conflict and development outcomes in the Global South. Her research combines quantitative and qualitative approaches, including design-based causal inference, original data collection, and elite interviews from fieldwork in China, Southeast Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa.

Alicia holds an MA in International Policy from Stanford University and a BA in Political Science from the University of Southern California. Prior to doctoral studies, she was a Research Specialist with the Empirical Studies of Conflict (ESOC) project at Princeton University.
